REPORT ON THE JOINT KCB FOUNDATION- UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI HERD HEALTH AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Veterinary Students Association (VSA) with the help of Clinical Studies Department (CSD) coordinated the implementation of the KCB Foundation - University of Nairobi – Veterinary student’s association community outreach and herd health activity culminating into the Baringo Animal Clinic in Baringo County. This was part of the implementation of the Mifugo Ni Mali programme by the Foundation

This activity took place on Saturday the 28th of March, 2015 throughout the county, there were 14 stations each manned by a Veterinary surgeon, 2 animal health assistants drawn from the county and 5 Veterinary students.

75 students from various levels of study although majority (62) were final year participated in the activity. Apart from the KCB Foundation, University of Nairobi and Baringo county, other participants were; Kenya Veterinary Association (KVA), Kenya Veterinary Board (KVB), Kenya Veterinary Vaccines Production Institute (KEVEVAPI), ADC and Norbrook limited.

The farmers’ turnout was impressive thanks to the county administration for good mobilisation.

The activity exposed the students especially the finalist to field experiences and undoubtedly enhanced their practical skills.
